The Atmospherics Trust....Reaching Through Barriers

Welcome to the Atmospherics (R) Trust - a charity dedicated to providing a meaningful service to people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health issues.

Mission  Statement:

"To create an oasis where people can experience beauty, harmony and relaxation, celebrating both their equality and uniqueness"

What we provide:

  • A charity providing relaxation service for adults with severe learning disabilities (SLD), profound and complex learning disabilities (PCLD), autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) and mental health issues

  • A sensory experience for people with SLD, PCLD, ASD and mental health issues

  • Relaxation using a sensory technique (Atmospherics (R)) via the use of colour, sound, touch and smell

  • Training to become an Atmospherics (R) practitioner

Below is a statement from the Chief Executive of The British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD), Keith Smith:

"Appropriate and skilled support is required to enable people with highly complex needs to participate in community life as fully as possible; and enabling them to live fulfilling lives with opportunities for growth, relationships, decision making and self-expression will also define them as equal citizens."

Valuing People Now - Department of Health January 2009.

I am pleased to have the opportunity to recommend the fantastic experiences that "Atmospherics" offers, especially for individuals with autism, complex needs or profound and multiple disabilities. The combination of colour, shape, sound, touch and smell enables communication and an emotional experience that provides a real opportunity for both growth and an increase in self confidence. Somewhere in the still and the quiet, something magical happens that is reflected in positive changes in participants. In addition, support staff also benefit enormously from being part of the experience and the richer relationships that emerge. Valuing People Now champions the need for people with complex needs to live fulfilling lives. I believe that "Atmospherics" offers a positive way to deliver on this challenge.

 Keith Smith, Chief Executive, BILD
